“The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”
John 10:3-4
Track meets were a big part of high school for me. If you have ever been to one, you know how hard it can be to pick out just one voice cheering for you from the crowd.
Yet, I could always here my grandpa, even when the stands packed with people yelling for the other athletes. He would “hoot.” My grandpa would put his hands up to his mouth and “hoot,” like an owl. I could always pick him out from the crowd and it gave me that extra boost of confidence for my events.
Do you know Jesus’ voice? Can you hear his voice over the noise of the world?
You are being pulled in so many directions everyday by your kids, spouse, friends, job, texts, emails, shows, workouts, meals, naps, sports, schedules, plays, concerts, recitals, doctors, dentists, hospitals, dreams, vacations, divorce, meetings, etc. Your days are full. Your mind is full. Is your heart full?
You may listen to a lot of other voices, but only one voice will give you peace. Only Jesus tells you what you truly need to hear.
You are his sheep, he is your shepherd. You are lost, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. You and I were born in need of Jesus. We were born sinful, lost in a sinful world, heading toward our last day in this world unsure of where we were going.
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Jesus took away your sins on the cross. Your sins are paid for, you are forgiven and your shepherd Jesus calls out to you in his word to hear his voice. You have a home in heaven waiting for you through your savior Jesus.
He will be with you as you face the many voices in your day. He will be your strength when you are tired, your comfort in sadness and your hope when you have none. Jesus loves you.
